GEORGETOWN CHORAL SOCIETY
Christopher Dawes, conductor
Bradley Christensen, baritone

Composed in 1741, Handel's Messiah is one of the most popular pieces in the Choral literature. Handel originally wrote Messiah for modest vocal and instrumental forces, with optional settings for many of the individual numbers, but in the years after his death, the work was adapted for performance on a much larger scale. The version presented on December 2 is titled "The Georgetown Messiah," and will consist of Parts I, II, and III of Handel's Messiah interspersed with letters from Handel himself, George Kennedy (founder of Georgetown), Saint George the Martyr and George II, King of Great Britain.

You won't want to miss this unique version of a most beloved work.

MASTERWORKS OF OAKVILLE
Charles Demuynk, conductor
Bradley Christensen, baritone

Mozart's C Minor Mass and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy are two masterworks of Western music. The Mass in C minor is the last musical setting of the mass by Mozart (not including his Requiem Mass left unfinished at his death). Composed in Vienna between 1782 and 1783 the large-scale work is scored for two soprano soloists, a tenor and a bass, double chorus and large orchestra.

The Choral Fantasy, for piano, vocal soloists, chorus, and orchestra, was composed in 1808 by Beethoven. Beethoven wrote the piece to conclude a benefit concert for him on 22 December 1808, at which he also presented the first performances of his Fifth and Sixth Symphonies. The work begins in C minor, but modulates during the second and final movement to C major.

These two extraordinary works create a perfect pairing. This is a concert not to miss.
